We absolutely loved Yliza’s prenatal class. This is our first pregnancy and my husband and I had a lot of questions and uncertainties about labour and birth prior to attending. This class provided us with valuable information to prepare for labour and for baby. We came away with a much clearer idea of what labour might look like, what to expect, and what strategies we could use to make it easier for both of us. Yliza’s class has given us confidence in each other when it comes to continuous labour support and in caring for our baby. The class was interactive and was a very positive environment to open up and ask questions. We gained valuable insight into breastfeeding and what to expect. Yliza’s knowledge and experience in prenatal/postnatal care is very evident in the information that she shares with us. We appreciated having someone with such an impressive medical background, lamaze knowledge, and passion lead the class. Thank you Yliza for such an incredible class! I would highly recommend this class to anyone expecting a little one.

As a first time parent I assumed the prenatal class was more for me to learn about the delivery. I was very happy & impressed to learn it wasn’t just about that. It was more about making each of us feel comfortable/confident in ourselves & in our relationship to be a team. Yliza gets right to the point & answered all of our questions! Thanks Yliza!

My husband and I attended Yliza’s 4 week prenatal class and it was awesome! Lots of information and time to answer any/all questions. And lots of attention to the birth plan/ideas that we hoped for–but also sharing many many possible options. She also takes the time to answer questions outside of the class (days, weeks etc later).
Yliza is very passionate about pregnancy, labour, delivery and those first few days/weeks when baby goes home. She is incredibly caring and genuinely wants what’s best for mom, baby, and family.
We were pretty lucky to have amazing nursing staff and doctors during our labour… and we were very fortunate to actually have Yliza as our nurse for the delivery of our little girl.

We were referred to Yliza by good friends of ours; she attended the births of both their children. I got to meet and chat with her at a party those same friends had to welcome their second child, and was happily surprised by how warm and personable she is; I was there without my wife and feeling a bit awkward, and she engaged me in conversation about our expected child, and what our hopes and expectations were for the birth. I left with an amazing impression and her business card. My wife Tania Funk and I decided right away to meet with her and see if it would be a good fit, and it was; not only is Yliza experienced as a doula and Lamaze-certified prenatal birth class teacher, she is a registered nurse with a decade of labor and delivery experience! That spoke to us, as Tania is a registered nurse as well.

We had a few birth classes with her, and she took us through all the basics of what to expect in the pregnancy, the labor, and the basics of child care and breastfeeding. She was available during the sessions and anytime to answer all of our inquiries, and never made us feel that there were any bad or wrong questions; her techniques were always centered around helping us to arrive to the best decisions for US about how we would approach the birth, and how best to take care of our baby. At no time was she dismissive of a father’s role in the birth, either; she took time to reinforce how I could be the absolute best support for my wife and taught me how to be a real aid in the labor process! When the time came to speak with our doctor about basics of labor, delivery, how it all works, and our wishes about anesthesia, cord clamping, etc., our doctor (also a very lovely person) was pleasantly surprised at our level of knowledge going in.

When the big day came, she was at the birthing room as soon as she could be, right in there with us and involved directly in ways that someone who is not an actual medical professional could not be- the doctors and nurses respected her role in the room and her foreknowledge of our birthing wishes. She and I were able to work together to keep my wife as centered in the labor as possible- feeling loved and fully supported.

We had a beautiful baby boy! Yliza kept in touch via phone for the period after the birth as well, and came by to do a debrief of everything that happened with the hospital after she left, as well as discuss any current needs we had.

I will wholeheartedly recommend Yliza’s services to anyone who is wondering if her type of care is right for them! She is a kind, open, and generous person who inspires trust; the level of trust it takes to let someone be part of one of the most transformative days of your life! Thank you again, Yliza.

The prospect of labour and delivery has been something I have feared throughout my adult life – which became even more clear when I became pregnant. Not only were there countless unknowns and uncertainties that go along with a first pregnancy, there was also the knowledge that birth is a painful and challenging event. In my mind I was fixated on what could go wrong, how painful it could be, not understanding what medical interventions were normal or necessary, and I was very nervous that I would not have the power to control these things or the proper knowledge to understand them. This is when I connected with Yliza who was recommended by a close friend. In meeting with Yliza, I was struck by her personability, her knowledge and most importantly her genuine interest in my personal needs for a healthy pregnancy and positive labour experience. While something as ‘holistic’ as a home birth held no interest for me, I was hesitant about some of the medical interventions commonly used within a hospital setting. With a background as a maternity nurse and an advocate of the more ‘natural’ approach outlined in Lamaze, Yliza did a fantastic job in blending these 2 philosophies in a realistic way that made me feel safe, comfortable and empowered in my birth decisions. In addition, she addressed the concerns of my husband and made sure he had the tools and information he needed to assist me during the birth. After our classes, I was a bit surprised at how excited I was for the labour process. Something that was a point of anxiety previously, was now a challenge I wanted to meet head on. I know that this was because Yliza had assisted me with the necessary information for delivery, addressed my concerns and provided me with techniques for coping during the labour process. My husband and I are so happy to have had the privilege of working with Yliza!

We feel so fortunate to have Yliza as our Childbirth Educator! Our pregnancy was fairly straight forward but we were nervous when it came to the thought of the birth process. On our own we would have made it okay through the pregnancy and birth; but with Yliza by our side, we were able to experience the amazing beauty of pregnancy and childbirth. With our private prenatal classes, Yliza made us feel confident and capable in the kind of childbirth experience we wanted to have. She helped us make informed decisions and supported us wholeheartedly. When it came to the delivery, Yliza’s calm confidence helped both of us focus on each other and the moment, instead of worrying about the other questions and uncertainties. Throughout all of this, Yliza felt like a family member in the room. We developed a close relationship with her and continue to stay connected and catch up from time to time. She is so invested in each and every one of her clients. Yliza, we are so happy you have chosen to share your gifts and talents with people this way! Thanks for everything!
